The Zen of Python

I liked this a lot. Programming philosophy that I believe in.

Taken from http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0020/ Author: Tim Peters <tim at zope.com>

Beautiful is better than ugly.
Explicit is better than implicit.
Simple is better than complex.
Complex is better than complicated.
Flat is better than nested.
Sparse is better than dense.
Readability counts.
Special cases aren’t special enough to break the rules.
Although practicality beats purity.
Errors should never pass silently.
Unless explicitly silenced.
In the face of ambiguity, refuse the temptation to guess.
There should be one– and preferably only one –obvious way to do it.
Although that way may not be obvious at first unless you’re Dutch.
Now is better than never.
Although never is often better than *right* now.
If the implementation is hard to explain, it’s a bad idea.
If the implementation is easy to explain, it may be a good idea.
Namespaces are one honking great idea — let’s do more of those!

An ode to the setting sun

Posted on October 29, 2006. Filed under: own poetry, Personal, poem, Poetry |

In the evening by the sea
I saw thee.

Your beauty matchless,
You cast a spell on me.

My heart jumped with joy,
my soul was filled with pleasure,
I wanted this moment,
to last forever.

But Alas! This was not be be.

Settling into your lover’s arms,
you disappeared from sight,
As the lovely evening
turned into night.

My heart was sorrowful,
But I knew,
Tommorrow will be a morning new.

Once again
you will leave the sea,
And shower sunshine on me.

My view of Gandhigiri

Posted on October 27, 2006. Filed under: gandhigiri, Mahatma Gandhi, Personal, personal thoughts |

Gandhigiri is not about not hurting anyone, its not all about putting your other cheek forward after being hit on one cheek.

It is about getting your way by causing mental pain to your opponent as opposed to physical pain.

Truth?

Posted on September 22, 2006. Filed under: My-Poetry, own poetry, Personal, poem, Poems, Poetry, religion, Truth |

You got to be religious
Insisted my Mother
This way to keep away sorrows
is better than any other

Religion does not tell me
the Truth about Life I said
of how the world functions
and how it was made

Do you really need to know
all of these things?
Don’t you think attaining peace of mind
is above all these things?

But why should I surrender to delusions
when I know that the truth is out there?
I will search for the truth
no matter the path leads where

I searched for the truth
and it lead me here
but the truth was such
that I am still not sure
  There are no truths
  There are no lies
  You are born and therefore
  will live through this life

  There is no grief
  there is no sorrow
All you are here to do is reproduce
and for that survive till tomorrow

  For this survival
you have been given some sense
And to cover the questions raised (by this sense)
we had to invent this religion non-sense

if only we could control sense
to be doled out in exact proportions
we won’t be thinking “higher” things
and be concentrating on matters on hand

We would be producing worthy offsprings
  and populating the earth
without needing the briddle of religion
steering us for all its worth

You got to be religious
I said to my daughter
This way to happiness
is better than any other
